title staying safe onlineAlongside the wonderful and exciting things that the web brings,
there can be hidden dangers as well - for example in chat rooms,
people can pretend to be someone that they aren't and entice you to meet them -
you can receive unwanted and nasty emails, texts or have something posted on a
web site about you. This is known as cyber-bullying.
People can use your personal details for their own purposes

To make your time on the Internet or in chat-rooms as safe as possible,
there are a few rules that you need to stick to. .
Rather than list them here, there are a couple of websites that you can visit to get advice
Try Childnet International and follow the SMART rules.
For advice on chat-room safety have a look at Chatdanger.
www.thinkyouknow.co.uk
has some straight talking advice on many aspects
of online safety - follow the sections from the dropdown box on the opening page.

If you do encounter problems with something you do on the Internet, TELL SOMEONE.
You'll not only be protecting yourself but other people of your age as well.
Your parents, teacher or a trusted adult will be able to help you.
If they want some advice, then get them to read this page.

Youth - Help!

We take protecting and offering support to children and young people very seriously.

There are two people at our church who you can talk to if you are ever worried about anything - these are
known as Child Advocates. They are Jill Neale and Vikki Crossman.
If you would like to, email them here...

Here are some other places to go to if you want help or advice:

there4me.com logo

confidential online advice for teenagers

If you've got worries or need some advice, There4me.com can help. The site is for all 12-16 year-olds living in the British Isles. It's to help you find solutions to your problems. There's on screen advice about all sorts of things...bullying, relationships, exams, drugs, difficulties at home, to name just a few. Or you can send an e-letter to Sam, their agony aunt. If you'd prefer a confidential private session, you can talk 1-2-1 in 'real time' with an NSPCC adviser, or e-mail for reply within 24 hours. You don't have to say who you are - you stay in control.
childline logo
ChildLine is the free, 24-hour helpline for children and young people in the UK. Children and young people can call our helpline on 0800 1111 about any problem, at any time - day or night. Children who are deaf or find using a regular phone difficult can try the textphone service on 0800 400 222. ChildLine's counsellors are there to help you find ways to sort things out.
ChildLine is confidential - which means they won't tell anyone about your call unless you want ChildLine to talk to somebody for you, or you are in danger.
Their lines can be busy but please keep trying and you will get through.
